Each schedule below is an adjustable example, not a prescription. The common engine is to diagnose where you stand, drill your weakest domains with targeted practice, test under real conditions when a checkpoint will answer a useful question, and review the result. No schedule guarantees a score change. Keep only the blocks you can complete without sacrificing the review, school commitments, or sleep.

Start with weeks until the test, weekly capacity, and the skills behind recent misses. Use an official Bluebook practice test when you need a scored adaptive checkpoint. Use 1600.lol fixed-mix practice for additional pacing, answer-review, and error-pattern evidence; its score is a practice estimate.

More runway creates room for additional practice-and-review cycles only if the weekly plan remains sustainable. If a schedule repeatedly spills over, remove a block and preserve the review step.

The 1-Month SAT Study Plan

This compressed example uses one baseline, two focused practice-and-review cycles, and optional later checkpoints. It assumes several short weekday blocks plus a longer weekend block. If that does not fit, reduce the number of drills or full tests instead of rushing their review.

Week 1 — Diagnose and target

  • Day 1-2: Use an official Bluebook test for a scored adaptive baseline, or a 1600.lol fixed-mix practice test when the goal is pacing and answer review. Do not treat the latter's estimate as an official score.
  • Day 3: Full review session. Build your error log (see the review protocol) and identify your two weakest domains in each section.
  • Day 4-7: Drill those weak domains daily — 45-60 minutes per day in the question bank, filtered to the specific skills you missed, starting at medium difficulty. Alternate Math days and Reading & Writing days.

Week 2 — First drill-and-test cycle

  • Day 1-5: Continue daily targeted drilling, moving up to hard difficulty in the skills where you can explain the method and repeat it on fresh questions. Read the relevant question bank only when a miss reveals a concept you genuinely don't know — then go straight back to questions.
  • Day 6: Full-length practice test #2, same timing discipline as the diagnostic.
  • Day 7: Full review. Update the error log and re-rank your weak domains — they often change after a week of drilling.

Week 3 — Second cycle, harder material

  • Day 1-5: Drill the updated weak-domain list. Add one timed mini-set per day (10-15 questions against the clock) to build pacing, not just accuracy.
  • Day 6: Full-length practice test #3.
  • Day 7: Full review. Pay special attention to repeat mistakes — anything that has appeared on two error logs gets priority for the final week.

Week 4 — Taper and sharpen

  • Day 1-2: Final full-length test (5-7 days before the real exam), then a complete review of it.
  • Day 3-5: Short daily sessions (30-45 minutes): redo every question in your error log from scratch, plus small mixed drills across both sections.
  • Day 6-7: Light review only. Skim the error log, confirm test-day logistics, and sleep. No new material, no full tests.

A short plan can disappear into passive review. Give each content block an immediate retrieval check or a small fresh question set, then use the result to decide whether that topic needs another block.

The 2-Month SAT Study Plan

This eight-week example adds more space between checkpoints: diagnose, repair the largest gaps, run focused practice-and-review cycles, then reduce the workload near test day. It assumes several shorter weekday blocks and a longer weekend block, but each block can be shortened or removed.

Weeks 1-2 — Diagnose, then repair the biggest holes

  • Start with a full-length practice test and a complete review. List your three weakest domains per section.
  • For each weak domain, read the matching question bank once, then immediately drill that skill in the question bank at easy-to-medium difficulty until you can explain the method and reproduce it on fresh questions.
  • The example alternates sections across four or five days; use fewer days if that is what you can repeat.

Weeks 3-4 — First full cycle

  • Raise drill difficulty to medium-hard in your repaired domains and start mixing in your second-tier weaknesses.
  • End week 4 with practice test #2 and a full review. Update the error log and re-rank domains.
  • Add one timed mini-set (10-15 questions) twice a week to start building pacing before it becomes urgent.

Weeks 5-6 — Second cycle, pressure on pacing

  • Drill almost entirely at hard difficulty in your remaining weak skills; maintenance-level practice (one short set a week) in domains you've fixed so they don't decay.
  • Add timing to selected drills and track accuracy and pacing separately before changing the next block.
  • End week 6 with practice test #3 and a full review.

Weeks 7-8 — Final cycle and taper

  • Week 7: drill only what the error log says still misses, plus daily mixed sets across both sections. Take practice test #4 at the end of the week.
  • Week 8: final full-length test 5-7 days out if you want one more data point (that's test #5), then taper — error-log redos and short drills only, nothing new in the last 3 days.

A rehearsal near the planned test-day start time can expose practical friction such as sleep, breakfast, device setup, and breaks. Treat that as a logistics check, not a promised performance effect.

The 3-Month SAT Study Plan

This twelve-week example separates the work into three phases rather than repeating one schedule:Foundation (identify and repair gaps), Build (practice and review in cycles), and Rehearse (check timing and reduce the workload). The extra runway is useful only when the blocks remain repeatable.

Phase 1: Foundation — Weeks 1-4

  • Week 1: Diagnostic full-length test, full review, error log, and a ranked list of weak domains for each section.
  • Weeks 2-4: Work through your weak domains one at a time: read the question bank for that topic, then drill it in the question bank from easy through medium until you can explain and repeat the method on fresh questions. The example gives each domain several study blocks; change that based on the evidence.
  • End the phase with practice test #2 to measure what the foundation work actually moved.

Phase 2: Build — Weeks 5-9

  • Run drill-and-test cycles: drill hard-difficulty questions in your current weakest skills for about two weeks, then test, then re-rank. That's tests #3 and #4, at the end of weeks 6-7 and 9.
  • Shift from untimed to timed drilling by week 6. Add a weekly mixed set that deliberately jumps between domains so you practice recognizing the needed approach without a filter label.
  • Keep a small mixed set for stronger domains if recent results show they need maintenance.

Phase 3: Peak — Weeks 10-12

  • Week 10: Practice test #5 under full test-day simulation — same start time as your real exam, timed breaks, phone off. Full review after.
  • Week 11: Error-log-driven drilling only. Take your final test (#6) at the end of the week, 5-7 days before the real exam.
  • Week 12: Taper. Redo error-log questions from scratch, run one short mixed drill a day, and stop entirely 1-2 days before the test.

A long runway is useful only if the plan stays visible. Put the next week's blocks on a calendar, review what was actually completed, and shrink the following week before missed work starts piling up.

How Many Hours per Week?

There is no validated score-gap-to-hours formula. Build the week from blocks you can actually finish, and count the review time before adding another test or drill. The rows below are capacity examples, not outcome estimates.

Track completed practice, completed review, sleep, and school workload for one week. If blocks keep rolling over or review is rushed, lower the volume. If the plan fits but fresh results do not change, change the skill or method instead of automatically adding hours.

If one long session leads to fatigue or skipped review, split it into shorter blocks across the week and compare completion and error quality. Keep the structure that produces better evidence for you.

What to Do with Practice Test Results

A score alone does not decide what to study next. Reserve a separate review block after each full-length test, classify the evidence, and turn it into the next small practice decision. The time required depends on how many answers, guesses, and pacing decisions need attention.

Step 1 — Log every miss (and every lucky guess)

For each question you got wrong or guessed on, record four things: the domain and skill, what the question asked, why your answer was wrong, and why the correct answer is right. A spreadsheet or notebook is fine — the format matters less than doing it for every single miss, including the ones that feel like "careless errors."

Step 2 — Categorize by cause, not just topic

Sort each miss into one of three buckets: content (you didn't know the concept), process (you knew it but set it up wrong, misread, or fell for a trap), or pacing (you ran out of time or rushed). Each bucket has a different fix — content misses need the question bank plus drilling, process misses need slower setups and re-reading the question, pacing misses need timed sets.

Step 3 — Re-drill the top domains within 48 hours

Take your two or three most-missed domains and drill them in the question bank while the review is fresh. Filter to the exact skill and difficulty you missed, then use fresh questions until you can explain the decision and reproduce it without the original answer in view.

Step 4 — Retire errors by redoing them cold

A week or more later, redo your logged questions from scratch, without looking at your notes. Get one right more than once on separated attempts before retiring it; miss it again and return it to the drill rotation. A shrinking repeat-error list is useful evidence that the repair held, not a guarantee of a particular next score.

Back-to-back tests can create more data than you can use. Schedule the first review before adding another full test; if review time disappears, keep the review and postpone the second test.

How long should I study for the SAT?

Choose the runway your calendar actually allows. A longer plan creates more room for a diagnostic, targeted practice, full review cycles, and rest; a shorter plan requires tighter prioritization. This guide provides one-, two-, and three-month structures, but no duration guarantees a particular score change.

Is 1 month enough to study for the SAT?

One month can support a useful diagnostic, focused skill cycles, and reviewed practice, but the result depends on your baseline and available time. Check progress with an official Bluebook test; if the remaining gap is still large, decide whether a later test date better fits your goal.

How many practice tests should I take?

There is no universal count. Start with a scored official Bluebook baseline when you need an adaptive score checkpoint, then schedule another full-length test only when you have time to review it. The examples on this page show possible cadences, not required totals.

Should I study both SAT sections every day?

You do not have to. Alternating focused single-section days is one workable structure, while mixed sessions can test switching and pacing. Choose the structure that lets you complete the practice and its review consistently.

When should I take my last practice test before the SAT?

Leave enough time to review the result and recover before test day. The examples here place a final checkpoint about a week out, but you should move or skip it if it would crowd out sleep, schoolwork, logistics, or a careful review.
